MEMBERSHIPThe Senior Citizen Advisory Board shall consist of 11 members. Six appointees shall be 55 years age or older and the remaining five appointees shall each represent an organization that fund or provide services to senior citizens or represent a mobile home park for senior citizens or other retirement community within the City. Each appointee shall be a resident of Harlingen or work at or operate a business in Harlingen. The Mayor and City Commissioners shall each appoint one member to the Board who is 55 years of age or older. Each Commissioner shall also appoint one member to the Board who represents and organization that funds or provides services to senior citizens within the City. Each member may serve a maximum of three years, but in no case shall the term of any Board member exceed the term of office of the mayor or Commissioner making the appointment. The City Manager shall appoint a city employee to serve as an ex-officio member to this board with no voting privileges.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Citizens Advisory Board advises the City Commission of the needs of senior citizens, the resources available to local senior citizens, and programs that could benefit the needs of local senior citizens and their families.
