Transfer Station

This division of the Public Works Department is responsible for the operation of the solid waste disposal system and recycling center. All refuse generated in the city and surrounding communities are disposed of at the facility in compliance with the rules and regulations of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. All refuse is delivered to the Harlingen Transfer Station where it is loaded into large aluminum transfer trailers and transported to the City of Brownsville Landfill.

Will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. 

Mission Statement

To operate the Transfer Station in full compliance with the rules and regulations set forth by the Texas Commision on Environmental Quality. We are committed to providing efficient and environmentally responsible waste management services for our community.

Objectives

  • Maintain area from Loop 499 to Industrial Park clear of debris and upkeep landscaped areas at the landfill and Transfer Station.
  • Comply with all rules and guidelines established by the State.
  • Monitor leachate collection system, and monitoring wells.
  • Operate Transfer Station in compliance with the rules and regulations established by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
  • Implement long-range brush disposal plan.
  • Initiate action after review of landfill sitting study.
