Mission Statement
The street cleaning division mission is to support the safety of the City of Harlingen citizens by street cleaning with the removal of foreign matter, extension of life on roadways and maintaining a clean appearance. The street cleaning division has (3) street sweepers and plays a big role in our stormwater management program to prevent the buildup of sediment, which can cause flooding during heavy rains. The division has (2) vactor truck that maintains all manholes, grates, inlets and flushes storm sewer lines to promote effective drainage throughout the city.
Objectives:- Maintains 323 lane miles of street sweeping.
- Maintains 201 miles of storm sewer systems.
- Maintains 2,472 manholes.
- Maintains 5,194 grates and inlets.
Street Maintenance
Mission Statement
The street maintenance division maintains and repairs all paved/unpaved roads and streets, sidewalks, drainage, median beautification and other right of ways within the City of Harlingen to improve the quality of life for its citizens.
Objectives:
- Performs all street and drainage work necessary to provide safety for citizens.
- Maintains 323 miles of city paved streets.
- Maintains 66 miles of alleys throughout the city.
- Keeps up with 15 miles of drain ditches clear of debris and trash.
- Installs drainage structures to improve the drainage system.
- Applies asphalt hot mix and crack seal streets throughout the city.
- Maintains right of way clear of overgrown grass throughout the city.
