Civil Service

The Civil Service Director provides direct support to the City Civil Service Commission as mandated by Local Government Code 143.012. The Civil Service Director is directly responsible for performing those duties required by the Civil Service Commission and acts as a secretary to the Commission. Additionally, the Civil Service Director assures that the City complies with Local Government Code 143 (Municipal Civil Service) in the personnel administration of police and fire classification and appointments, compensation practices, disciplinary actions, leaves, entry and promotional examinations, and other statutory provisions. The Civil Service Director, in coordination with the Human Resources Department, also facilitates employees and management services within the City's two civil service departments, Police and Fire.

Minimum Qualifications to Apply

  • High school diploma; or GED; or 2 years of military service with honorable discharge; or have current license from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standard and Education (TCLEOSE)
  • Be at least 21 years of age, and not have reach his/her 45th birthday
  • Shall be a U.S. Citizen and must be able to read, write, and speak English
Employees are provided with paid health and life insurance. Dependent coverage is available for pension/police officer: Retirement system is TMRS; 7% employee contribution 2-1 City match.

Minimum Qualifications to Apply

  • High school diploma or GED; or 2 years of military service with honorable discharge; or have current License from the Texas Commission of Fire Protection
  • Be at least 18 years of age, and have not reached his/her 36th birthday.
  • Shall be a U.S. Citizen and must be able to read, write and speak English
Employees are provided with paid health and life insurance. Dependent coverage is available for pension/firefighter: Firemen's Relief And Retirement Fund; employee contributes 15% and the City contributes 17%.
